Wintriss Sensor Alignment

Keeping your sensors aligned properly is extremely important. Poorly aligned sensors are one of the main causes of tracking problems.

Below are the instructions for checking the alignment on Wintriss Sensors.

Step 1 - Open the Utilities Folder
- Exit TechnoHunt until you reach the main Windows Desktop (with My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc.)
- Double-Click the Utilities Folder
  - Included in this folder should be Start Day, Align Sensors, Track (or Tracking Program), and Shop Data
It is very important that you do a Start Day each time prior to entering either the Align Sensors or the Track program. Start Day is what actually turns the sensors on, no data is sent from the cameras until a Start Day is done.

Step 2 - Double-Click Start Day
- All Cameras/Sensors in the range should now be fully lit (bright red). If this is NOT the case, then there is a communication problem somewhere. Refer to the Wintriss Communication Problem Page.
Step 3 - Double-Click Align Sensors
- This will bring up a new window. Maximize it. It is important to note multiple ‘errors’ that may occur here that are actually OK, and will allow you to continue:
  - Sometimes the Menu Options (File, Data, Control, Window, etc) will seem to ‘disappear’ and be replaced with lines. Moving the mouse over the options will make them visible again.
  - Sometimes the Menu Options that you need to use will be ‘grayed out’ disallowing use. If this occurs, simply exit the Align Sensors program, do another Start Day, and re-open Align Sensors.
  - Often after performing a command an error will pop up that says something like ‘C30 input error’, or ‘Got Ack Complete’, or ‘C30 –1’. Clicking OK should get you past these, and you can continue on.
  - Any message similar to ‘Bad ACK’ or ‘Unable to send command to camera’ Needs to be addressed. These are communication errors. If exiting, doing a Start Day, and re-entering program does not fix this, then Refer to the Wintriss Communication Troubleshooting page.
Step 4 - Click DATA
- Select Camera
  - Pick camera 1-4, depending on which camera you want to check/align.
  - Click OK
Step 5 - Click WINDOW
- New Scope Window
  - Maximize this window.
Step 6 - Click DATA
- Capture Raw Frame Continuous
  - A couple of things might happen here. If, after clicking, the system seems to halt for a minute, just wait. Soon an error will appear saying C30 error or something of the sort. Click ok. A partial graph should appear, but it will not be flickering. Click Capture Raw Frame Continuous again. Repeat until graph is flickering.
  - The system might hang completely. Or, if Capture Raw Frame Continuous is clicked again before the error message comes up, it will hide in the background. You must Exit the program, Start Day, re-enter Align Sensors and repeat all previous steps.
  - A graph will appear almost right away and will appear to be ‘flickering’. This is what we want. Continue to next step.
Step 7 - Click DISPLAY
- ZOOM
  - ZOOM ALL
    - This centers the graph. If a Zoom All is not done, then an accurate reading of the graph is impossible.

There should now be a flickering graph with a clear beginning and ending that resembles a Heart Monitor at a hospital. If all that appears is a straight line at the bottom of the screen, then the sensor is not seeing ANY portion of the tape. Follow the Red Light Box instructions in the user manual to get the sensor to look at the tape.

Putting your arm through the Sensor Array should create a ‘dip’ in the graph. If you move your arm across the length of the tape and up the wall the ‘dip’ should follow. If the dip does not follow your arm throughout the entire array (the complete distance of the tape), then the sensor is not aligned to that portion of the tape.

Place 1 finger across the full width of the tape (3.5 inches), about halfway up the wall across from the sensor being tested. You should see a dip in the graph. Moving your finger back towards you should make the dip get smaller and smaller until it disappears completely. At the exact moment the dip disappears completely (Or fist appears when you move your finger away from you), look at the very tip of your finger. This is the point in the tape where the sensor is looking at this location.

Follow this same step in 2 more locations:

1) On the floor, about a foot away from the wall, Opposite the Sensor

2) On the floor, Under the Sensor, about a foot away from the wall.

This should give you 3 good points to determine which direction the Sensor is looking.

IMPORTANT!: After each camera is aligned, you MUST exit the program, do a Start Day, and re-enter Align Sensors before trying to align the next camera. Failing to do so may create multiple errors and confusion as to which graph is being displayed.
